Balkans countries in their road to Oscars 2013

A record 71 countries, including first-time entry Kenya, have submitted films for consideration for the best foreign language film Academy Award.

Among Balkans countries to take part in this competition are:
1. Albania – Pharmakon, Joni Shanaj, director;
2. Bulgaria – Sneakers, Valeri Yordanov and Ivan Vladimirov, directors;
3. Bosnia & Herzegovina – Children of Sarajevo, Aida Begic, director;
4. Croatia – Vegetarian Cannibal, Branko Schmidt, director;
5. Greece – Unfair World, Filippos Tsitos, director;
6. Macedonia, The Third Half, Darko Mitrevski, director;
7. Romania, Beyond the Hills, Cristian Mungiu, director;
8. Serbia – When Day Breaks, Goran Paskaljevic, director;
9. Slovenia – Slovenia, A Trip, Nejc Gazvoda, director;
10. Turkey – Where the Fire Burns, Ismail Gunes, director;

Kosovo and Montenegro due to lack of investments in cinematography have not submitted any films for the Academy Awards.
