53rd Thessaloniki Film Festival

Thessaloniki, Greece 29 Oct 2012

The 53rd Thessaloniki International Film Festival will take place November 2 to 11, 2012.
TIFF will screen 14 feature films produced in 2012 in Greece and in coproduction with other countries, two of which will be participating in the International Competition section. In addition, the award-winning Greek films from the Drama Short Film Festival will be presented during the event.
This year’s Thessaloniki festival is scheduled to host distinguished guests, tributes, master classes and round table discussions.
The iranian director Vahid Vakilifar with film Tabour is to represent Iran at the 53th Greek international film festival.

Balkans countries in their road to Oscars 2013

A record 71 countries, including first-time entry Kenya, have submitted films for consideration for the best foreign language film Academy Award.

Among Balkans countries to take part in this competition are:
1. Albania – Pharmakon, Joni Shanaj, director;
2. Bulgaria – Sneakers, Valeri Yordanov and Ivan Vladimirov, directors;
3. Bosnia & Herzegovina – Children of Sarajevo, Aida Begic, director;
4. Croatia – Vegetarian Cannibal, Branko Schmidt, director;
5. Greece – Unfair World, Filippos Tsitos, director;
6. Macedonia, The Third Half, Darko Mitrevski, director;
7. Romania, Beyond the Hills, Cristian Mungiu, director;
8. Serbia – When Day Breaks, Goran Paskaljevic, director;
9. Slovenia – Slovenia, A Trip, Nejc Gazvoda, director;
10. Turkey – Where the Fire Burns, Ismail Gunes, director;

Kosovo and Montenegro due to lack of investments in cinematography have not submitted any films for the Academy Awards.

Balkans countries on Eurovision Song Contest 2012

21 April, 2012 – Athens, Zagreb, Istanbul

The Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will be the 57th annual Eurovision Song Contest. It will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, following Azerbaijan’s win in the 2011 Contest with Eldar & Nigar’s song “Running Scared”.
The two semi-finals will be held on 22 May and 24 May 2012, and the final on 26 May 2012.
Ten countries from each semi-final will qualify for the final and will be joined by Azerbaijan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Forty-two countries have announced their participation in the contest, with Montenegro returning, having last taken part in 2009, with Poland and Armenia withdrawing from the show.

Anida Idrizovic – Winner of “ZMBT4”

Anida Idrizovic wins the “ZMBT4”, a talent show aired by Hayat TV. After a long night with lot of performances and expectations Anida crowned as a winner among the other six finalists.

The second place Mirza Selimovic, who won the first place based on televoting. And the third place was for Sacir Ameti, a singer from Prizren (Kosovo).

Music show “The Voice of Albania” turned out to be one of the most successful music production in the Balkans.

Week after week show grew and the talent was immense. Enrika, Rina, Yll, Marsele and Arilda kept being frontruners.

Macedonia and Serbia decide for ESC 2012

Skopje (Macedonia), Belgrade (Serbia),

Soon after Serbia had confirmed that Željko Joksimović’s will participate on ESC 2012, FYR Macedonia broadcaster MKRTV also announced that one of their biggest star, Kaliopi, had been chosen to represent them in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 Baku, Azerbaijan.

Serbia won the ESC 2007 with “Molitva” sang by Marija Serifovic, while Macedonia best result was in 2006, when Elena Risteska sang “Ninanajna” in Athens, Greece and came 12th. Despite never finishing in the top 10, their record of qualifying for every final was only broken in 2008, when the jury vote used in the semi-final chose Sweden as a finalist, despite Adrian, Tamara and Vrčak having come 10th in the televote and not saved by the jury.
